However, in the interest of keeping this forum an open and inclusive environment, there are a couple things that we can not allow. The rules are few and flexible but let me make them clear so we can all continue to enjoy our discussions.

1) No Spam. The only members that have been banned at this point have been banned for posting spam. And by Spam I mean advertising a product or repeated posting of the same message in multiple threads in an attempt to dominate discussion.

2) No personal attacks. There will always be debate and disagreement, sometimes passionate, and it can thrive without direct personal insults. We have always been blessed to have a friendly tone throughout our discussions. I would love to keep it that way.

Obviously, these rules require your discretion in interpretation. And in no way do I intend to dissuade anyone from participating; I just ask that we don’t let the quality of conversation slip. I have personally enjoyed reading and participating in this forum and feel like I’ve gotten to know and appreciate Cervélo riders even more. And I am confident that we can keep it friendly welcoming despite our varied opinions. After all, that is the way we Canadians like our discussions...

Sincerely,

S1 drop out/hanger

Hi there to everyone!

At this point I do not necessarily expect to have the frame back yet.....just want to know what is likely to happen.

What are the experiences of people who have had this issue? Does
Cervelo deal with the issue, or do they leave you to find a fix on your
own? From what I have read, Cervelo seem pretty responsive, and I hope that they remain so with me.

Thanks in advance.

Learning to descend all over again...

Okay folks, I need some pointers/ tips or possible suggestions as to what is going on.

I have a base model S5, running SRAM Red with Zipp 404 Firecrest clinchers. I've noticed that when descending fast, say between 35 - 40 mph if I get a gust of wind, suddenly the bike seems to wobble and as you'd suspect this can be quite nerve wracking. I've had it happen enough now that I am not 100% sure it is related to getting aclimated to a new bike. My old ride was a 2005 Trek Madone 5.2 OCLV with Bontrager Aeolus 50mm deep section rims. This particular Madone was the model that Disco used at the 2005 Tour and had the "aero" designed down tube and seat tubes. The Bontrager wheels I was running where the same rim depth as the Zipps, they just weren't as stiff because the rim was a hollow wind fairing bonded to the rim.

A few of the things I've done to try and resolve this problem assuming it was rider error are:

-ensure wheels are secured, centered and tight in the drop outs

-gripped the top tube with my legs/ knees

-shifted my weight over the back wheel as much as possible.

-I've even played around with hand position in the drops.

The S5 was professionally fit using the Specialized BG process and I do not doubt that my set up is correct whatsoever. My saddle is in the front position as a result of the fit, so it isn't like I bought the bike and slapped it together myself. I just had it in for a tune up and because of a mishap with some ice/ snow (not while riding) I had to have two spokes on the rear wheel replaced, so I assume the shop tru'd the wheels. That being said I do not think it is a wheel issue i.e. tru or dishing because the old bike had that issue and this doesn't feel the same.

Have any other S5 owners had this issue? The descents around where I live in So. Central NH can be quite steep at times and there are times where you'll come out into the open and wham you get hit with a crosswind. I didn't have this issue with the Madone, but the frame designs are so totally different as to not be comparable. And I am worried that I'll be going downhill at some point and be all relaxed only to find myself on the floor covered in road rash.

So is there any suggestions/ tips or tricks that I might employ? I'd be curious to hear from the Cervelo engineers regarding this and whether or not crosswinds while descending were factored into the frame design.

Thanks.

Giant VS Cervelo. Why is this? What could Cervelo do to match the quality and reputation of Giant?

I brought my bike to my LBS (2 months ago) and they said they were gonna help me with the warranty. After a couple of weeks, the bike was done and I came to pick it up...surprisingly I found out that my frame was a 2012 S2, but the forks and the seat post were the ones that came off the S1.I spoke to my LBS and they said they were going to talk to Cervelo about this. After 2 weeks or so LBS finally got the new seat post and the a fork that was supposed to be NEW, but without the insert so now I am still waiting again for that insert to arrive. Upon close inspection of the guy who handles my bike in my LBS, he found out that the forks had wear marks meaning that it was already been used. I got a hold of him for a quick update and he told me that he contacted Cervelo again about this issue.

I do not know when my bike is going to get done. This is just ridiculous. I have heard of some bad stories in regards to the warranty job of this manufacturer, but did not think it would happen to me. I hope someone can give me feedback in regards to this. Thanks in advance and ride safe.

S5 Tyre Experience Summary

Just want to jump start this thread to catalog all experiences on using different tyres on our beloved S5. Feel free to add.

Frame size: 48
Tyre: Continental GP 4000s
Size: 700x23c
Wheels: Mavic Cosmic Carbone SL
Psi: 100
Issues: There is rubbing on the middle part of the seat tube. Good thing I have a helicopter tape installed. I can hear squeeks during rides.

Tyre: Vittoria Rubino Pro III
Size: 700x23c
Wheels: Mavic Cosmic Carbone SL
Psi: 105
Issues: Tried it once. I hear faint squeeks during my ride. Not yet sure if it is because of the the newly laid asphalt on the roads I've ridden this morning. Will update this once I get enough ride on this new tyre.

Picture of your Cervelo

I cannot imagine any bike enthusiast forum without pictures of the bikes...

I'd been searching for a rear blinky for my S5 for sometime and having long ago given up a search for a saddle bag, I was looking for a blinky that could mount on the seat mast or the saddle. And as I cyclo-commute using the S5, it was needed.

Cateye came through in a big way. They have a saddle rail mounting bracket that I installed last night and works perfectly. The blinky slides into the mount and can be placed horizontal or vertical and even with my saddle being in the front position, there was still plenty of room and with the blinky mounted horizontally, it tucks in nicely.

I'd post a pic, but work blocks sites that I'd need to upload the photos.

I just returned from a short quick group ride (about 45 km) and feel fantastic. It was a nice night temperature wise but the wind was howling and throwing us back and forth on our loops. I was fast tonight, top three of the group for the first time, and cut through the headwinds beautifully. ! was also very comfortable. The route has a good combination of rolling hills and climbs between 5-11% grades. I did not care that my bike may be a pound or two more then others at a similar price point and was able to chase the wheel and engage in some back and forth challenges with the Colnago C59 and Cannondale Super Six Evo that were in front of me. The first place I will look for a 454g weight savings is in the mirror.

I love my S5 and have no desire to switch my ride.

I never had any issues with my R3 so I never anticipated what was to come. Perhaps I should have read the forums first but its too late now.

I have been reading a number of threads in this forum where other R3 owners have had cracked BBs. I purchased a R3-SL at the end of 2010 and rode it for a few weeks before two cracks appeared on each side of the BB.As I had moved recently, I could not send the bike to where it was purchased. I sent the bike to the nearest LBS I could find that was an authorised Cervelo dealer. They inspected the bike, though pictures of the cracks, took my receipt and told me to leave it with them. That was about a month ago. Things moved quite quickly at the start and I was informed from the LBS that I would get a R5 as a replacement frame, but may require a new bike fit because of the change in geometry. I went for the bike fir, paid $150 for it which I thought was quite reasonable. The information was forwarded to Cervelo to arrange for a frame to be made/sent, maybe both. I was informed that there might be a wait of a couple of weeks as there are two other people waiting for a R3 replacement frame as well. The LBS also told me that I would probably need a new crank because of the change in BB design, which I may have to pay for. They said not to worry, we will sort it out when the frame is sent. Since that time, it has been about 3 weeks.

I guess I am getting a little impatient as it is something that is bugging me a little. For those who have had their frames replaced under warranty, how long did it take? I am located in Australia and perhaps things are slower here. I've read all the whitepaper/research on the topic (pros) as well as spoke to a few LBS owners (cons - although they have an interest in selling, the consensus was that this is not a worthwhile investment as they haven't seen/heard of any significant benefits from customers or club riders who use them).

I'd greatly appreciate any feedback/real life experience (on climbing, sprinting, front shifting, etc.) any of you who use Q rings may have.

On my end, if it will help me push even one gear higher on the climbs (I use 50x34 and 11x28) - it is already a worthwhile investment ;-)

I was searching the web because I have a question about my chain and I came across this forum and thought "OH, awesome.... cervelo owners will know" and then I started reading some of the posts. I am very surprised. Is it always this negative? Why do they allow people to bash the company on their own website? anyway, I do have a real question if anyone can help me. I have a compact crank and my friend has a standard size crank. We are going to switch because we both want to try the other one. Do I have to get a longer chain? The standard crank is a bigger ring right? I originally had a soloist with a standard crank and my new S5 came with a compact. I absolutely love riding both but the S5 is incredible. I have gotten much faster though. So what about you guys? lets hear it!

For Sale--two Standard Cranksets for Cervelos. Out of a coincidence I noticed today that the bottom bracket moves about 3-4 mm laterally. Meaning if I push the pedal arm inwards I move the entire BB so I can basically yank it side to side. Please help me understand if this is normal or that something is wrong and needs to be addressed?

From what I can read it shouldn't be like this, but then again, you guys experienced with Cervelo's probably know more than other forums. My bike experience is limited as my previous bike to this is a CX with Shimano 105 group-set on it and that bike is after two years rock solid. No movement in the BB what so ever.

Appreciate your help.

Behdad

Front der braze-on crack

Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with cervelo warranty process with this. Submitted claim through LBS and waiting on reply from cervelo. Do they attempt a repair or just replace the entire frame. Bike is a 2010 r3sl. Bottom rivet has come loose, not completely out of the frame though. Mount is loose and does not allow the derailleur to work correctly. Thanks for all of your input.

Thanks again for taking some time to help me out with some decisions.

I'm now looking into getting some decent wheels for those climbs. I am currently using Novatec Jetflys:

http://novatecusa.net/project/jetfly/

So, with abit of background:

I ride everyday, 1,049km so far this month and 542km last week, so weekly around a little less than that distance.
Rolling with the R3 Team with SRAM Red, I thought it would be a nice time to upgrade my wheels.
All the routes I take are fairly hilly, a 30km ride will have 350m of elevation, and that's one of the 'cruise' rides. For my hill training rides that I do at least once a week the toughest hill would be 16degrees and around 950m.

Could I grab some great advice as to which wheels you guys would recommend?
I am currently looking at Fulcrum Racing Zeros: http://www.wiggle.com.au/fulcrum-racing-zero-clincher-wheelset-2013/
Reynolds Assaults: http://www.wiggle.com.au/reynolds-assault-carbon-clincher-wheelset/
and The Fulcrum Red Wind 50: http://www.wiggle.com.au/fulcrum-red-wind-50-clincher-wheelset/

Thanks in advance guys!
