I am 168 cm tall with an 81 cm inseam.  I was fitted on a 51cm R3 last week.  I will pick up my bike next Thursday when they finish building it up.  I can't wait.

Sorry to ask a question on your post but if a 51cm frame works for a person 160 cm tall, what is the height range for a 48 cm frame?

    M,

    5'5"

    27"

Measured up at a dealer and I was told a 51cm R3 was told the right size.

Thing is it's more than just stand over height. I have short legs but a long torso. A top tube length of 52 - 53cm seems to work best, with a short 90mm to 100mm stem. The R3 in a 51cm is the same top tube length as my current Devinci. My cross bike has a virtual 51.5cm top tube and it feels like more of my weight is over the front of the bike so to speak. But it is an XS 44cm frame.  If you are perfectly proportioned, a 48 cm may fit. Personally I would not run a stem longer than 10 cm. If that isn't good look a the size up and compare.

Likewise, I am curious that no-one is on a 48.  Are people being 'fitted' onto a 51 to avoid the toe overlap problem?  If any small RS owners are reading this, what are your measurements and which size are you riding?

Let's also remember that if you get into a 48, you are going to the 650 wheels. So you are in a completely different equation, not hating the 650 wheels but 700c tubulars and tubes are far more likely to be available at race day and a loaner wheel will be easy to bum.I rode a 48 and felt pretty good btw, 51 was just better but it does feel less nimble and not as easy to throw around. For long rides, the 51 is the ticket, for me at least feels much more stable.I do have a very bizarre body though, --R

It's only on the RS model that you need need 650C for size XS and the P model's ! S1, S2, S3, R3 and R3SL need 700C in size 48! When Martin Pedersen was riding at CSC he ride a size 48 Soloist, he is 170 cm.
