    Deep Section Rim Choice

I'm tempted to get some deep section rims for my R3-SL.  Anyone got any ideas of what to go for?  I suppose it depends on what I'm going to use them for the most?

Go for EDGE 68 Carbon Clinchers. I have them on my Soloist team right now and they are great. Great depth at a pretty remarkable weight, with the ease of having a clincher rim. I got them at wheelbuilder.com.

DT-Swiss 190 hubs with ceramic bearings are awesome.  For a wheel builder, I highly recommend wheelbuilder.com.  They are awesome.  The owner, Rich, has a degree in engineering and he is extremely scientific in their approach.  I got competitive pricing and great service when I bought an Edge 38 clincher wheelset from them which I was really pleased with.  I had an accident 2 months later.  He turned around an emergency repair in 24 hours after he had the wheel.  And he charged me a nominal amount for the critical repair.  wheelbuilder.com did wheels for 7 national cycling teams for the 2008 Olympics.  Rich is an accomplished cyclist in his own right.  He understands and appreciates what us cycling enthusiasts value.

i'm going with 303s for my SLT. they're the best combo of weight and aero. zipp has made the rims a lot stronger for '09. it's all about what you want to use them for- whether you value climbing or aero. i think you can run 202s or 303s and still get better aero than with deep rims from other wheel makers.

Just got the Edge 1.68 Tubular for the rear. Fantastic rim. Very light, very stiff, very aero. I have the Edge 1.38 on the front. Great combo.

I've been racing on Zipp 404's with DT hubs and absolutly love them.  I use them for road and crit racing.  I cant say enough about the DT hubs [race wheels have ceramic, training standard], they are extremely smooth and roll for ever.  I'm partial to Zipp wheels because of the advantage they pose in a cross wind over other V shaped wheels.  I know Edge makes a nice [well built] wheel as well.  Do your research as far as aero benefits, head on, from an angle, weight.  I personnaly beleive that 50mm to 60mm ish is the best in most conditions, hills, wind etc.  You might also want to look at todays velo news, they are talking with Zipp wheels.

I have a set of Edge 68mm deep rims on my R 3 SL. I posted pictures of the bike on the Cervelo R3 SL / R3 Proud Owners. My bike is on page 5.

If they are for everyday riding / training go with the reynolds DV46 UL carbon clincher. They come with DT Swiss hubs and are very light for a carbon clincher (1390 grams)...add some Maxxis UL tubes and a pair of Shawlbe Ultremo R tires and you have a great all round wheelset. Light, aero, durable, raceable, etc. You can trump the set-up by upgrading to ceramic bearings (and save a few extra grams as well).
