    Soloist brake cable routing

Apolgies if this has been addressed previously.

I built up my girlfriend's Team Soloist (2007/8 model, I think) but have always had a problem with the rear brake cable routing - the distance and angle of the cable run (from where it emerges from the frame's top tube to where it enters the brake caliper) seems to put too much pressure on the caliper and so stops it releasing properly. I've tried different length cable outers and tinkering with the brake, but nothing seems to solve it. Does anyone have any suggestions? I was going to buy some Nokon cables but thought I'd ask here first.

    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks

    Re: Soloist brake cable routing

Never really had any problems in setting them up.  From time to time on many different bikes, I will have the cable housing pushing down to hard on the calipers and the calipers will want to move off center, for that I adjust housing length, and clean up calipers and then it works.  I would look at the calipers make sure the arms are not overtightened so they can move freely.

    hope this helps

    Thanks for your quick reply.
I think the problem might be that on the small frame the cable exits in a downwards direction and then has to bend upwards before going back down into the brake which creates a) a lot of friction, and b) a sort of spring action against the caliper. I've tried several different lengths of brake outer and tried adjusting the brake itself, but no joy. Perhaps a brake caliper with a shorter cable arm, if there is such a thing?
