    3T Funda Fork Rake on R3 54

I have had an R3 for about 6 months and love the bike.  I recently decided to raise my stem slightly in seeking a bit more comfortable position while in the drops.  I discovered my LBS who built the frame up cut the fork tube short.  The tube length was slightly below the top of the stem now with the rise there is enough of a gap I am not confident the stem bolts have enough tube to clamp to.  I have this vision of bombing down a fast bumpy decent and the stem rotating resulting in an ugly scene.  My normal weekend group ride has such a decent.  I like the Funda fork and I am thinking of replacing mine but I was not sure of the rake.  I believe it is a 43 but wanted to confirm it.  I can't seem to find this spec on any Cervelo website.

Before you go and buy a new fork and have it glued and cut,

    1) Have you tried just flipping the stem so that it raises the handlebars?

You should still have the steerer tube about a mm

or two below the top so you can get an appropriate amount of load on the bearings before

    torquing the stem bolts.

Some may whine about how this looks with a stem flipped up,  (no one cares) but it'll give you

an idea what it's like with the handlebars raised before you buy a new fork, get it cut and

re-done.  You may also find the LBS has another slightly used fork that is longer.

Just thought I'd mention that, as you may find that you don't want it any higher, or the

    flipped works, and it's free.

    Aloha,

I didn't buy an R3 to flip the stem and make it look like a comfort bike.  I bought the R3 because of the serious nature and I like the bike.  Just because my LBS cut the tube too short doesn't mean I am willing to cut corners.  Besides I can afford to buy a new Funda fork and set it up properly.  I am sure someone would be interested in my old fork on eBay and I would not be out that much after the difference.  I would much rather do this than flip the stem but to each his own.

You mentioned more comfort, and raising the bars. I merely suggested it as a determination of another limit. I don't have mine flipped up, either.

With a new uncut fork, It'll be nice to have a very large range to work with.

    Good luck,

    Aloha,
