    New R3

Ordered my new R3 from Competitive Cyclist on Friday.  It was one of the 2009 complete bike models with Dura-Ace 7900 components.  My first new bike in over 20 Years.  My current bike is a 1989 vintage Tomassini SLX steel frame with Campy Chorus components purchased back in '89.  I never even ridden one of the new composite frame bikes.  I'm sure it will be an eye opener.  I have been enjoying this forum for a while now.  My new R3 should be here on Thursday.

Their Pricing of $4560 for that bike is a VERY good deal! For that price they probably wouldn't change anything, but I'd beg to get a free upgrade to a Compact 7950 and 11-28 DA cassette. (But then I have hills followed by mountains followed by mountains).

You got a Spectacular bike at an incredible price. Enjoy.

    Aloha,

    Jeff

Domino, I did the same thing as you about a month ago. Got the same bike (though I swapped out the seat and the wheels). Prior, I had been riding a 21 year old Cannondale 3.0 crit bike with Shimano 600-series components (they are the precursors to the Ultegra). It will be a striking, striking, striking change for you. The comfort, rigidity, lightness, quickness and speed are shocking. I wish I could see you're expression when you first ride it.

I put on the Shimano WH-7850 scandium wheels with Hutchinson Fusion 2 tubeless tires. Very sweet, especially since my LBS let me trade the stock wheels in so I didn't take as much as a hit on price. Presently, I'm riding 100 psi and they ride frighteningly quiet and comfortable. Still waiting for the 7900 Flightdeck computer to come out but I'm starting to lose my patience of riding without a computer and having to use my stopwatch and Google maps to gauge my progress.

    Re: New R3

Well the R3 arrived last Thursday from Competitive Cyclist.  It was packed for shipping very well and I assembled the bike with no issues.  They did a great job at Competitive with their portion of the assembly.  The finish on the frame is impeccable.  I went for a 65 mile hilly ride on Saturday on roads that I was used to riding with my SLX steel bike.  A dramatic difference.  What a bike the R3 is!  Climbs great and the ride is very smooth.  The bike came with Shimano RS20 wheels i guess are on the heavy side.  I wanted to upgrade so ordered a set of Reynolds Assaults.  I do mostly 20-25 mph group rides in pacelines of flat to rolling terrain.  I may want to supplement these with a lighter set of climbing wheels  for the climbing rides.  I'm open for any suggestions.  Hopefully the Assaults will be a good all around choice for mostly all terrains.  I also ordered a longer stem.  The bike came with a 90 and I ordered a 100 which hopefully will do the trick.

All and all the finest machine I have ever had

    Thanks all!

Congratulations...i am sure you will be blown away by your new R3....only drawback i see is that whenever you get back on the Tomassini its going to feel like riding a tank or ice breaker of some description ;-o

Enjoy...post pics if you can when it arrives....
