Using deep section race wheels for every day training: cool or uncool?

Using deep section race wheels for every day training: cool or uncool?

I thought it would be interesting to get a range of opinions (and reasoning) on this topic.

uncool. why put miles on them and wear them out unless you're racing? it's a waste. keep them in tip top condition for race day.

it's your bike though & if you like the thrill of riding them everyday go for it.

Ride them all you can. Look good all you can. Enjoy the irde

Training wheels shmaining wheels, use the goods ones, as when it comes down to wearing them out, you will want another pair anyways.

Today's training wheels are yesterdays good wheels anyway.

Enjoy the deep dish, carbon, flashy decaled wheels all you can.

Why buy nice wheels if you don't intend to ride them until you wear them out?

why ride a stiff, rigid deep section race wheel when i can ride a buttery, comfortable box rim training wheel for a quarter of the price?

seems to me like a no-brainer.

Not only Cool but completely common these days.  It occured to me that if I am going to spend all that money on those great wheels why only ride them a handful of times a year.  If You do that how will you ever get the value and enjoyment out of them?  It is fine if you end up choosing not to but I say go for it.

I would ride them! The only thing that would sway me would be......if you train on wheels that are heavier and less aero then come raceday when you put on your deep dish lightweight wheels you will feel great and the bike will feel much lighter. but like i said if i had deep dish wheels i would ride them all day everyday cause why else would i buy them lol

Ride what makes you happy.  Who cares what others think?  I personally enjoy the deep dish wheels.

I ride my Renn 575 rear disc wheel for training or riding on my 2009 P2. My g/f that's a tri coach says it's weird but I don't give crap. I don't have the time nor money to keep swapping out all the time for this and that.

I have right now 3 Cervelos. Soloist Team, Soloist Carbon, and a S3.

I have 3 set of zipp wheels - 2 for racing and 1 set for training. In the summer i always use my zipp 808 clincher for training and use my zipp 303 and 808 tubular for racing. Why not use a good wheel for training?

In the winter i have lots of training wheels such as Ksyrium Eqiupe, Shiamano R500, Shimano R550 and so on.

I think to depends the number of pair of wheels you have and how much races you participate.

To keep a pair of wheels spécially for race is a good matter, nevertheless, running with deep section wheels give a training too boring and I think to have good sensations during the training could be very benefit.

So, I recommand you to have a second good pair of wheels, and you are lucky ! It's Christmas soon !!

They look cool and high tech, but unless you are racing, or at least averaging well over 20mph on your rides, they are just expensive jewelry. So I guess, if you have the legs to back them up, I'd say they're "cool" for any occasion. I don't have those legs - so I would consider them "un-cool" and pretentious for me. But that's just me. If you have them, ride them however you see fit.

I'd train on deep wheels too, to get used to the handling so on race day there are no surprises.
