    Campy brakes..

On SRAM and Shimano brakes there is little lever that you flip up to expand them so that you can remove the wheel. On my Campy 11, I've notice that there is no such lever. So how do you remove the wheel if you can't expand the brakes? In the mean time I'm going to look again. Maybe I'm missing something because I can't believe Campagnolo would leave something like this out.

Update: Never mind...I figured work around. Can't believe that Campagnolo hasn't adapted the Shimano quick release lever.

    1. The quick release is on the brake lever.

    2. It's been that way for ...like, forever.

    3. I agree, it's not as useful as the Shimano system

Actually I think the idea of putting the quick release to the brake lever is better than the Shimano solution. At least for racers: if you have any problems with your brakes dragging to your wheel (due to a crash, broken spoke, etc.) you can easily open the quick release without stopping.

Good point, didn't think of that (opening up the release when actually riding). For racers, it could come in handy, but the for the rest of the Campy users (probably the majority of Campy owners, myself included) that's not much of an issue. The biggest problem with Campy's quick release is that it is either closed or all the way open - no in between. So if you've bent the wheel a bit you have to deal with a far lever reach when the brake lever release is open.

Why would you have to stop to open the QR on a non Campy brake?  It is no problem whatsoever to move the lever on the caliper while riding.  I have ridden with the Campy system and Shimano style and definately think the Shimano type is superior.

I wouldn't swap campy's superior stopping power for shimano's quick release system

I don't know about that..."superior" would be a bit of a stretch. The performance differences between a Campy or Shimano brake system is minimal, probably imperceptible to some. Both provide great modulation and stopping power. Many would actually say that Shimano stoppers are better than Campy. Ahhhh the Shimano / Campy debate goes on...:D

If I was unclear, my mistake but what I was saying is that I think the QR system for Shimano style brakes is superior.  There was no inference to any other aspect of the calipers actual braking or modulation performance.

No worries, I wasn't referring to your post. I was referring to fran's.

    Re: Campy brakes..

I've got both Campy & Shimano on diff bikes... I like the look/feel of the Campy brakes better, but prefer the continuous QR cam adjustment of the Shimanos mounted on the caliper instead of the open/close button at the lever like Campy's - 1) I like to run my pads close to the rim so there's minimal 'play' in the braking action, but sometimes when it's wet the rim will pick up debris and start to rub the pads, so I can just reach down and open up the caliper enough to clear the rubbing but don't need to have it open all the way; and 2) you can use them w/ other brands of brake levers (like on a TT bike where the shifters are separate) without giving up the QR feature.

If your rear brake is rubbing, opening a Campy caliper as you ride is s lot easier than opening a Shimano caliper. I've managed to rub my fingers into a moving wheel a few times doing a Shimano rear on the fly.

according to this test, shimano and sram brakes outperformed campy in stopping power. http://www.eecycleworks.com/VNJune%20BrakeTest.pdf

Thanks for that link it's a really good read I run the old record on mine as I prefer them to the skeletons and I think they preform better,it's the first review I've read that puts campy behind shimano but as some one who boycotts shimano guess i might pick my reading, was thinking of upgrading to kcnc brakes but on that test will probably stick with campy record.Any one out there got any thing good to say about kcnc brakes I run reynolds attack wheels so are they good or not?
