I owned a pair of 700x 23 Tufo tubular clinchers a few years ago on another bike. Prior to purchasing, I was aware that the one weakness of the Tufo tire that I purchased is its (unprotected) sidewall. The tire sealant can work effectively except when the puncture occurs in the sidewall for which it becomes "iffy". I had the misfortune of getting a puncture very early in the life of the rear tire that was in the sidewall. Only by pumping the tire to correct pressure was it apparent that the sealant did not work. It came pouring out of the sidewall. I have heard cyclists in other forums same the same thing ... it can be messy working with a failed Tufo tire and sealant. The front tire did have a long life but I did not purchase anymore Tufo tires.
The advantage of a tubular clincher is the avoidance of pinch flats while using a clincher rim. This is particularly useful in cyclocross.
Based on memory recall from a few years ago, I don't think the Tufo tire had as much suppleness and ride quality as I expected. I certainly would not trade my 320 tpi Vittoria clinchers for a pair of Tufo's today.
Another memory detail has come back to me. At the time, it was characteristic for Tufo's to be very difficult to get onto the rim. One invariably got sore thumbs from doing so.
