I guess there were some Danish track champions riding it aswell perhaps.
But that said, it wasn't made as a bike for the champion(s), as e.g. Cadel Evans' WC winner Canyon which he rode in e.g. the Gran Piemonte and Giro di Lombardia, after securing the win in Mendrisio. In that respect I think the critique of the S3 Rings is moot. Riding one would be no less silly than riding the "team replica" S1, S2 or S3. Heck, the team bears the name of the bike company.
Isn't the whole idea that these professionals are riding the same frames as we are? In my mind that is a major selling point for Cervélo and other pro peloton bike makers. The whole "are you worthy" debate is pretty lame. Quite frankly quite few of us deserve to ride the kind of bikes we do. Take a look at what some of the Eastern European national teams brought with them to Mendrisio. There was a lot of entry level componentry and aluminium frames.
I agree with the aura Quixote. It felt the same way seeing the frame for the first time.
