By that logic I shouldn't ride my USPS Trek, for I never rode on their team?  I feel your over thinking it.  Buy it, ride it, love it!   Who cares!

    You are absolute right!

I do own few USPS's Trek's TT/road (I don't use them anymore as I sell Cervelo and they are definedly better bikes to ride but they reminds me that 2004 was last year that Lance was alloed to use Lightweight's that I also love/own. I also own 3x Disco team TT-suits w/o riding in that team simply because they are SO fast... ) and I also own one P3WC, another 54cm was stolen from shipping. Paint is only paint. I just like look of white P3WC and, sadly so does our customers. And Cervelo doesn't sell it anymore....and IF that WC-paint scheme make you remind former champpions and maybe ride more, faster or anyway feeling better, it's nice thing anyway.  Think positive...

Well,I don't think there are or were any Olympic champions riding that frame? I can't remember if Spartacus' tt bike had the rings, but I don't think so. It was simply a bike provided to all Cervelo road and track athletes with no regard to Olympic merit, and prior to the events. You should have told Kolobnev Arvesen and Gustav Erik Larsson the same ;-) Anyway, riding the frame does not bother me at all. Nor am I troubled by the ltd TDF S3s.

'06 Soloist Team - HED Jet 60's w/Vredestein Forteza Tri-Comps - FSA K Wing bars - Look Keo Carbon pedals -  Ultegra.  Considering the Oval Concepts R900 Fork.  Like the Alpha Q but want the a little more aero/bling.

    Stunning!  What size frame (cm)?

Life is too short to worry about what people on internet forums think about your frame's paint scheme. If you can afford the Olympic S3 and Cervelo are willing to sell it to you, go for it

I'd be interested in knowing how much Cervelo spent for the rights to use the "Olympic Rings". Since the IOC has spent millions suing for trademark infringements against people in the past, I am sure it didn't come cheap.

    I'm guessing nada.

Technically I don't think those are "Olympic Rings" so much as "colourful donuts". If the rings were linked in the familiar 3-over-2 pattern then I think the IOC would have a case, n'est-ce pas? Given it's a company with roots in Canada, the leap to donuts may not be so far fetched. This special edition may just be a tribute to Phil's hidden lust for Tim Horton's strawberry dipped, more than by feats of prowess by the Olympians aboard the bikes.

    Silly people...

lukeymuffler: You're absolutely right. My apologies for not ignoring the trolling ;-)

Jasann: I don't think Cervélo refers to it as an Olympic edition, only as the "S3 (Rings)". I do not know the full extent of the IOC's protected trademarks, but I'm willing to guess that once the rings are dispersed as on the S3, they are not in violation. Buying the rights to use would be an extreme cost. The IOC does not sell its rights cheaply.

Almost.  The Canadian Olympic tri team got them.  I remember when I first saw it being put togehter on the stand.  There was this aura around it, hehe.

I guess there were some Danish track champions riding it aswell perhaps.

But that said, it wasn't made as a bike for the champion(s), as e.g. Cadel Evans' WC winner Canyon which he rode in e.g. the Gran Piemonte and Giro di Lombardia, after securing the win in Mendrisio. In that respect I think the critique of the S3 Rings is moot. Riding one would be no less silly than riding the "team replica" S1, S2 or S3. Heck, the team bears the name of the bike company.

Isn't the whole idea that these professionals are riding the same frames as we are? In my mind that is a major selling point for Cervélo and other pro peloton bike makers. The whole "are you worthy" debate is pretty lame. Quite frankly quite few of us deserve to ride the kind of bikes we do. Take a look at what some of the Eastern European national teams brought with them to Mendrisio. There was a lot of entry level componentry and aluminium frames.

I agree with the aura Quixote. It felt the same way seeing the frame for the first time.

I would skip that rubber chain prototector. 0 of our demobikes have them. (S3, R3SL, P3WC, P4, etc) But our alloy Cx-bikes have few...

It works great but looks less good. Whatever you want.....

I must say that, 2010 S3 will be sick nice.I'm buiding one for my girl friend, Ciamillo Cravitas brakes will fit very nice in paint schemo, Rotor all black stem and cranks, 3T Ltd bar, my own carbon seat, FFWD F2 tubular wheels, Campy Record chain, silver Nokon's,King Cage Ti's, black Speedplay Ti's...

    Re: Picture of your Cervelo

Not that I am condoning or inviting a lawsuit (especially against Cervelo), but if I was an IOC lawyer, I'd be all over that like a fat kid on a lollipop. I am sure Cervelo's lawyers looked into it, hence the scattered "Olympic like" rings; hell the IOC sued this tire company for putting their tires in an Olympic Ring formation for an ad http://www.allbusiness.com/legal/909893-1.html. Does Cervelo not refer to that model as the "Olympic Edition" anywhere in print?

I have some clear protective PVC strips on their way.

On the S2 I warrantied I just used some black electrical tape and "custom" pieces of an old tube. On a black frame that worked great.

The company you're mentioning put their tires in the formation of the Olympic rings -- I'd guess that's the difference. Cervélo's aren't.

Simon Whitfield was an Olympic Champion riding the frame:

If you are happy with it (and it's undeniably a lovely frame) I am happy for you. I did declare that I was teasing you hours before your post quoting Brian and I as trolls. Personally, I wouldn't have the balls to ride the frame as I don't think it's appropriate at my level, but I also understand that it's not the same for everyone and a good job for Cervelo that that is so. Brian is as entitled to express his opinion without being insulted as you are.

I would remind you to remember that and go enjoy your bike.

I guess "Beijing paint scheme" covers the legal bases;-) As far as riding or using something that the "pros" use, we would be pretty limited in our product choosing as far as sports products go. I'd have to get rid of all my baseball caps, shoes, tennis racquets, etc. etc.
