Kdog + everybody: Why do so many of you have "winter bikes"? I'm assuming that you don't want bearings to get damaged in the wet. Any reason why you wouldn't just replace the BB / wheel bearings every season instead?

For me it's not complicated. Knowing the roads in winter are not so great, at least here in Ontario, not like Halifax. Aluminum crash, not so bad. Carbon crash, not so good. Cleaning hard anodize easy. Cleaning and possibly mar the paint on my S2, like to avoid that.

Yeah, crumbling frost-heaved roads that have surface layer of salt are asking for trouble.

This man loves his bike, which is why he told me to get a S1 for my first bike. Since ive crashed twice and fallen over at red lights for the forgetfulness that im attached to my bike, what a good decision. yea ill ride until the snow comes out. Dont want to damage my chain or bike with the salt from the road.

kdog - OK, fair enough about why someone needs a winter bike. What does the commuter bike do that the winter bike doesn't do? :) They are very nice, by the way! You may have posted this already, but what's your main ride? EDIT: I just re-read that you have an S2. Cool.

I open my shop up at 3 am. When I commute  it's always dark and as good as my light is, it isn't that great. If I'm going to hit something, I rather it be on my soloist. Riding the soloist as both my commuter and winter bike protects my S2 and saves it for pleasure riding only. Hard to compare the two bikes because they have completely different builds on them but the S2 and how I've got it built rides incredible.

Sorry, I just could not resist;-) That's how my mind works (they are seeking help for me). No offense intended.

We can call it even though, for I will not mention the many responses to the kcat lurking in kdog's shadows comments I would like to post;-)

Enjoy your ride (the S1, of course;-)

For me, other differences w/ my non-cervelo winter bike... greater frame clearance for fatter tires and fenders and easier to clamp lights than on shaped carbon tubes.

I'll do the same shot with my S2 next week. In Ontario our roads are unpaved so I have started, at my own expense, to line all roads with aluminum. Take that Halifax! Pictures done at my shop. (precision sheet metal design and fabrication) . Kcat works for me and helped me with the pictures. He is litter trained and a great guy.

No prblem having more than 1 bike in the stable, just as long as the bikes have different intended purpose(unless you are rich).  I have an RS for long centuries, an SLT for Tris, and a mountain bike for winter/off-road riding
