I will be in the process of getting either an R3 or R3 SL soon. I know the new ones comes with the Easton forks, but is it really worth switching them with either the Reynolds or Alpa Q GS10 before I roll it out of the LBS? I've read that these forks will allow the bike to handle better especially for the size 48cm that I plan to purchase. I am planning to switch the stock wheels with some Mavic Ksyrium SL too. Has anyone stuck with the Wolf forks and had no problems with handling whatsoever? AC

There are no problems with the Wolf SL fork, you occasionally hear of the steerer breaking if people install the insert incorrectly.

If you buy a new R3 or R3 SL now it will probably come with a new 3t Funda Pro fork, the replacement for the Wold SL.

I’m a Cat 3 racer in southern California and been riding a R3 SL [2] for a little over a year now.  My first bike came with the Wolf fork and I liked it.  I crashed last march and got a crash replacement frame that came with the Easton EC90 SL fork.  I immediately notice a the bike was a little ‘soft’.  The fork was not as stiff laterally or vertically.  I talked with cervelo and they stated it was a supply issue as to why they switched to the Easton fork on the R3’s.  The person I spoke with stated it should be a stiffer fork, I don’t believe this to be the case.   I weigh 185lb and ride a 61cm, you might not experience the same issues I have.  If your not racing or ridding on extremely fast group rides I wouldn’t worry about it.  On smaller frames the difference will be less between forks.  I personally am going to switch to the new Edge fork.  This is a one piece fork i.e.  Steer tube, forks and drop outs are all one piece carbon.  I have some good friends [pros] ridding them and love them.  They state they’re the best fork they’ve used.   All this being said… I wouldn’t choose any other bike, regardless of fork!
