    Re: R3 Buildup :)

Re the gold Shamals, you can not change the wheelset! You can of course but in the pictures of all the Cervelos on this forum, I only recollect the use of titanium Shamals. I think the gold would be quite distinctive.

You realize that you have a "golden" opportunity here. Pardon my words, you see I am thinking of my alterations to the RS that I am planning to purchase. The color scheme of the RS and R3 is monochromatic (black and white, and some silver in the case of the RS). As I already have a red cyclocross bike, I am looking to use a color other than red. Green Vittoria Open Pave tires for example although the reduced price of the yellow Open Corsa EVO at ProBikeKit is eye catching.

In the case of the RS, the color scheme of the black/red 2008 is frequently the preferred choice to the black/silver/white color scheme of the 2009. My rebuttal is that the 2009 color scheme allows one to use any colored tire/accessory. One need not be tied to red for life although I guess, red is the faster color. (Having said this, I still love the Project Red bike.)

Best of luck with your color choices and have fun.

I am currently at 15.6lbs(~7080grams) with heavier parts than you noted but with an R3 SL.. I think  you should clear 7kg easy since I am running SRAM Force, heavier wheels, brakes and cranks.

    Re: R3 Buildup :)

Hey peeps sorry for the lateness in getting this build happening it in the shop as of this week so should have pics up very soon :)

im sticking with the reynolds wheelset :) for the initial part

but will take pics with the shamals on as well for those interested

im hopefully making the right decision sticking with the reynolds over the shamals

    :)

cant wait for it to be built

oh and i couldnt get the 3t seatpost in time so i decided to go for a matching kforce light 2009 model

so it will match my bars and stem

    :)

Not to worry you will come in under 7 kilos easily. You are starting with such a light frame and not using really heavy parts. It should be a very nice ride. Do get pictures up when you get it done.

Are we having fun or what?

It's great seeing all the pics.  I finished my R3 SL build up a few months ago(well it's still not done but rideable), and it was a blast.  It get better when you get to ride it.. Enjoy!

Oh, just curious, why ddid you go with FSA K-Force?  It wouldn't be because of the white stripe??

    Re: R3 Buildup :)

Hey thanks for the comments guys muchly appreciated :)

im absolutely loving it atm and its not even built yet :)

was a painful wait awaiting parts to arrive but i think itll all be worth it in the end

basically with the kforce i wanted to go something with some flat top bars whilst keeping things still fairly light

so the kforce was a pretty easy choice when choosing all parts i think itll look quite good when done

i did happen to notice frank schleck iirc using the same seat post :)

I built my SL with Force due to price and I felt like shouldn't go so light.. then I won't have an excuse for being so slow.  I am glad I did, the bike is just too easy to ride!  It's soo light and responsive!  I can't tell if I am in better shape or the bike is that much better!

Sorry, I meant FSA CSI/K-Force parts.. what bugs me most about FSA stuff is the claimed weight is way off!

    Re: R3 Buildup :)

Today I was able to take out my '08 R3 for it's first "real" ride.  (Dura Ace with SLK Light compact crankset, 3T ARX Team stem and Ergosum Team bars, Record 32.4 seatpost, and HED Ardennes wheels with a SRAM Red 11-26 cassette)  I did about 50kms of pretty hilly terrain and she just blew me away.  I also own a Soloist Team and thought that was the ultimate machine.  I'm so impressed with this bike.  You're going to be in Heaven Whitey.  Thanks again for the pictures and enjoy every bit of the build.  Keep us posted.

Sorry, I just had to share.
