Re: Cervelo R3 SL / R3 Proud Owners

Just picked up my Cervelo R3 on Saturday morning.  Dura-Ace 7900 Groupset, Shimano Scandium WH-7850-SL tubeless wheels, Hutchinson Fusion 2 tires, swapped out the Arione for a Flight Gel Flow seat and Speedplay Zeros.

Got in my first ride on it last night.  Light.  Stiff.  Smooth.  Simply loved it.  I'm sure I'll tinker with the fitment over the coming weeks but it is leaps better than my old Cannondale.  Here are the improved photos:

nycebo, I have the Hutchinson tubeless on my Fort, I love them. As the Fusions wear out, I'm replacing them with the Hutchinson Intense, 25mm width and slightly heavier, but longer wearing. Are you using sealant?

Hey Alex, I have sealant in the front tire as it was gradually losing air overnight upon installation. The sealant resolved the problem completely. As for the rear tire, it remains sealant free. From what I've read, installation requires a great deal of patience with soap and water to create a really tight seal. Generally, my LBS said it's just easier to dump in some Hutchinson sealant and call it a day. Rides great though. Really like them. Edward

The hard part is getting the tire on, because the carbon bead is so tight. The soap and water is just to make sure the bead is seated all the way around when you inflate. But that's done already, putting in the sealant is easy. If you do it yourself, just remove the valve core, pour in an ounce of sealant, replace the core, and inflate. Hang up the bike while you do it so the weight of the bike doesn't break the seal of the tire. Especially living in New York, I'd use sealant. It's the best set-up for city riding.

Hi off. At last I see the Rotor Q Rings on  SRAM cranks. Is the front derailleur up at it's max setting without any interference from the outer ring? And has the shifting been negatively affected?

A beaut outfit you have there.

mick.rocket, That is correct, for the 52/39 130BCD Q-Ring's I did have to set the front derailleur to the top position for it to clear. As far as shift quality, I was pleasantly surprised it did not affect it too much. From small to big ring, there's definitely more lag, but it's only a fraction of a second more. The benefits outweigh the negatives with the Rotors!

Bobbo, That is an awesome setup you have there. Read about it in the other thread. Let us know how Di2 works out once you've gotten some saddle time with it!
