  • Re: Travel case recommendations

@ Goleagsgo5 - Cool. I looked into insuring my bikes through my home insurance but it was too expensive. For the additional coverage, it would have been more economical to take the risk and buy a new bike if necessary. I do a fair bit of travel (4 international trips/year typically) and bike transport costs have been as little as $100 and up to ...

I don't know when this article was written (based on the comments probably mid-2011), but it gives a nice breakdown of the costs of flying a bike on North American airlines: http://www.bicycling.com/bikes-gear/bikes-and-gear-features/fly-your-bike. If this was almost 3 years ago, then these costs have no doubt increased. Another consideration ...

Check the link for a 2012 review of hard and soft bike cases: http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/article/best-bike-boxes-and-bike-bags-33421/. I have used the Thule hard case for many years with no complaints. However, nearly all of these bags are oversized and incur hefty extra luggage fees ($150-300) and these can quickly increase the cost ...

  • Re: Power meter recommendation

It really depends. Both have good reputations for repeatability, which is probably more important than accuracy, so the answer is not really in the PM themselves. The answer probably depends on the likelihood of you using different wheel sets or different bikes. If you want to use a PM on more than one bike, then the PT is a good option because ...

  • Re: Assos Bibs

Hype? No. Worth the cost? Yes. Cannot comment on Castelli comparisons, but better than Giordana. I really like my Assos bibs, especially for long days in the saddle. I have absolutely no regrets in having bought my Assos bibs (which now number four) - worth every cent.

  • Re: Requesting Aero Road Bike Advice - 5' 11", 140 lb climber

Thanks JustKeepPedalling. Few more questions: 1. How do the legs affect the aerodynamics of the frame? Do pedalling legs differ from static legs in the way they affect the aerodynamics of the frame? 2. Does the upper body affect the aerodynamics of the frame? 3. If 80% of the aero drag is attributed to the rider and aero drag is 80-90% of the ...

@ Hutch - I am with you. I am just trying to understand as well. I do not have any training in aerodynamics. @ Bridgey - I understand what you are talking about and I agree that testing real world conditions would be ideal, but the number of permutations required to do this would be huge when you take into consideration all the individual ...
