    Compatability question

As I built up my S2 frame with components from my other bike, and purchased components, I've come across issues of component compatibility. I'm now thinking of upgrading my Tektra brakes with Ultegra. I can get a set of unused Ultegra 6600 brakes from my LBS, but are they compatible with my Sora shifters? I'm thinking about leverage points and the length of cable pull required by the matching Ultegra brake levers verses the Sora ones on my bike. Any help or advice is appreciated. Another compounding factor is that I may upgrade the shifters to Ultegra or Dura ace (7900 version) this summer.

    Re: Compatability question

my gut feeling says that the BR-M 6600 brakes shall be compatible with Sora Shifters. AFAIK the pull of the shifters for the brake changed with the 7900er (and corresponding ultegra/105) series only.

Having said that, still the 7900 shifters are compatible with the older brakes. just the older shifters mustn't be used with the newer brakes!!!

i know, because i 'm running the 7900 shifters with the 7800 DA brakes.  the say is, that you just loose a little bit of bite on the brakes in this combination. but to me it's fine. i never missed more bite while braking. probably you may notice more difference from using other pads than from switching between 7800er and 7900er brakes(?).

... and the 6600 ultegra brakes are compatible with the 7800 DA brakes :)
