Re: 2013 S5 Rear Wheel Rubbing

    noysboy:
Just a FYI. I took my 2012 S5 Team in because of a wear spot from wheel rubbing. (2012 404 FC and GP4000s 25s). Cervelo told my dealer that its not a warranty issue and that I should use a smaller tire. Disappointing.

If you're using 25's then they're right.  The S5 is designed for 23's and has been stated so by David in other posts here on the forum.  I don't think Cervelo ever advertised that 25's would actually fit well on the S5.  Sorry about the rub man, hope it's not too ugly. :(

Shoot, my mistake, I have 23s, NOT 25s. I edited my original post with the correction.

Do you know if your LBS actually measured the tolerances on your frame and then reported those measurements to Cervelo?  From my memory that was the "tell" as to whether or not the frame would be warrantied.

That's a good question. I know they sent pictures to Cervelo, but I dont know about the measurements. I will follow up with them. Thanks for the info.

I think Cervelo have taken this (S5) issue very seriously and it is very evident they have designed the new S3 with plenty of rear wheel clearance around the partial wheel cutout.  I believe the new S3 will be the choice of some of the Team Garmin riders, especially if they can fit 25-27mm tires.  The fork looks "beefy" as well, so I'm sure more wheel clearance has been added there as opposed to the 3T forks of the past.

Quick update: Got another call from my LBS that Cervelo IS going to warranty the frame. However, they dont have any in stock, so waiting on them to give a time frame. We shall see.

Just bought my new Cervelo S5 two weeks ago. During the first cleaning I realized this nasty black spot. TT

     Same problem. Arrrrrg.

Cervelo took care of me. Sent me a brand new 2013 S5 frame. LBS swapped it out and everything is fine now.

Re: 2013 S5 Rear Wheel Rubbing

Hi Hutch, My LBS has a 2014 Cervelo S5 VWD on sale which Im interested on buying. After reading most of the comments on this thread and other similar threads, it looks like most of the issues where with the 2012 and 2013 models. Would it be safe to assume that by the time the 2014 models came out most of the manufacturing issues were resolved? If I decide to get it and still have issues with the rear tire clearance, the shop should still be able to contact cervelo and submit the frame under warranty right? (even though is from 2014 and is on sale?). Besides having to put 23's or smaller on this bike, what is ok for wheels? no wider than 24? I saw some comments here saying people use 404 and 303 which are around 26 at the widest point? Thanks, Paco

Re: 2013 S5 Rear Wheel Rubbing

I had the same experience on my S5, it only happened when using the 3- 4 biggest cogwheels. It turned out that the tire was marked as a 700 x 23 tire but looking closely I could see it was bigger and took it off and measured it and it was a 25 wrongly marked as a 23. Put a new 23 on and problem went away. A
