2013 S5 with Zipp's and what tires I should run to avoid the rubbing on the Carbon Frame

I just bought a 2013 S5 and wanted to put the Continental 4000S on them as I use them on my 2013 R3. I have heard many stories about the rubbing on the Carbon frame and wanted to see what others are running that are durable and have great grip.

My LBS talked to Cervelo today about Continental tires in general and they do not recommend using Continentals on the 2013 S5 at all. They said the Continental 23's are about the same size as other manufacturers 25's.They did recommend Mavic and Vittoria but I have never ridden either of these.  I am looking for a tire that is as good overall as the Continental 4000 S. Any recommendations?

I have the non-firecrest Zipp 404's (2011 model) on my 2012 S5 which I think are pretty much the same wheel as the Zipp 60s.  I've run Conti 4000S' on them without any rubbing.

The LBS today talked to Cervelo and they are telling them not to run Continental's on any S5 because of the height of the tire. I re-posted to see what others have had good luck with . Cervelo recommended Mavic and Vittoria.

No issues so far with Schwalbe Ultremo ZX 23mm on my 404 FC.

Previously had Vittoria Rubino Pro Slick 23mm, the ones that came with my S5.

I'm running 23mm Continental 4 Seasons on my S5 at the moment and they are fine. I previously ran 24mm Vittoria Open Pave CG and they would rub a bit when I hit a bump etc. I would not run any 25mm tyre on this bike. I've complained about this before, but the inability to run 25mm tyres on the S5 is a disaster. I find it incomprehensible to be honest.

This morning I put my new R3's Zipp 202 25mm Schwalbe EVO-1 onto my 2012 S5: *major tire rub (won't spin). The S5 currently has a Zipp 101 with 23mm Schwalbe Ultremo ZX. So, I presume I'd need to run a 23mm if I want to use the new EVO-1 version on the S5, especially when I get Zipp 303 Firecrest for the S5. Maybe TIREMANIACS can chime in (?) I really want to use the same 25mm on all 3 bikes.

Thanks. Cervelo said no 25 at all on the S5. Just want to find a 23 that is a lower profile, durable, and rolls great without rubbing. So the suggestions are much appreciated.

michelin pro 4's size 23 are about 24 mm wide, but only 22 mm high

    worked well on my S5

I think Conti's are higher, as has been said, and would stick with Vittoria's just to be safe. I had Conti 23's work as well but I think it varies frame to frame based on the manufacturing. Either way the clearance is tight. Stick with Vittoria's. I tried a 24mm tubular Conti and it rubbed as well. Using 22mm tubulars Conti 4000S and no rubbing.

On my particular S5, Zipp 303 Firecrest Carbon Clinchers with Conti 4000 in 23c worked but I did pick up dirt that would occasionally make some noise when it hit the frame. I also used 23c Gatorskins with Dura-Ace C24s and had no problems. I did try 25c 4000's and there was no clearance in the front to the point where the tire wouldn't spin.

Use ZIPP 404 FC on a 2013 S5 VWD with 23mm Conti 4000s without any problems! will soon try the 4000s2 Conti's ;-)

    Cheers!

Here are the tyres that I've used on my 2011 S5. I've Used Mavic Cosmic Carbone SL exclusively. 23c Conti GP4000s - Frequent Rubbing, especially on rough roads 23c Vittoria Rubino 150 tpi - Encountered rubbing. Took the tyres out immediately. I think it's because of the freshly laid asphalt. Mavic Ykson - Installed it and clearance looks good but hard as hell too install to my mavics. Deal breaker if you encounter a flat. Michellin Pro 4 - Installed it and clearance looks good. Again, hard as hell to install. Current. Conti GP4000 20c - No rubbing whatsover. I know it's 20c. Suffered only one flat and easy to get out and get it. I'm used to it so why fix what's not.
