    New R5

Looks like there's a new R5 coming. Saw a picture on Instagram.

...this could be interesting. I see internal seat post clamp and hero shaped seat post; beefier but still aero shaped downtime; what appears to be a very square top tube; no more pencil seat stays and what appears to be beefier rear dropouts;much larger fork;taller chain stays? What else?

Hard to tell, but that beefier rear dropout could be to accommodate a direct mount derailleur. I suppose the release will be finalised once R9150 di2 lands (mid Feb, allegedly). There go my hopes of buying a cheap 2014 R5 while consoling myself with the fact that I still have the latest and greatest frameset. This also doesn't seem to be the standard colour scheme, as implied by the post. EDIT: again, can't be sure from that picture, but is that a direct mounted front brake?

If Cervelo is quite intentionally going to give a sneak peak of a new model bike, what's the deal with the vinyl wrapping job? Personally I can only hope they're undecided on a paint scheme because they've fired their old graphic design artist and are considering some fresh ideas. Heck I'd take those black and white poka-dots over last year's uninspiring red generic paint scheme.

it looks as if they went to the more conventional stack-reach of the "new" S5. That's a big win.

Depends on your point of view, I would think.  I rather like the current R series geometry as it allows me to ride without spacers and as it works for me.  Not a "big win" for me, and I suspect others, if you are correct in your assessment

It does come down to personal preference. I personally prefer the current geometry (almost identical to my current bike). I'm sure that the S5 geometry with a few spacers won't be too bad, but with the stem slammed, I fear that it might be a bit too aggressive for my taste. But then again, this is a full race bike, so the more aggressive S5 geometry would be quite fitting. --sennder

    Re: New R5

Of course, if you like endurance bike geometry, and there's no problem with that, the post-RS R-series geometry may be fine. My arms are long, I'm flexible, and I prefer a few spacers (they give a little room for adjustment). The new R5 is now much closer to Cannondale and Specialized.
