Next weekend is the big Ride

Yes, it is that time of year again....next weekend is the Ride to Conquer Cancer for me once again. Monday (local holiday) I am getting the S2 cleaned up, doing the last of the fine tuning and getting ready for next weekend. Should be a grand adventure for year 9 and I'm wearing my 3 helmets again: rider, medical crew (bike patroller) and Rider Safety Volunteers Captain (ride nanny / helper of the poor lost lambs who know not how to fix a puncture ;)  ).

Next year I get my platinum helmet (good thing too....my normal helmet is now timed out and my gold, 5 year helmet is timing out next spring) as I fully intend to make it 10 RtCCs in 10 years.

Well, another Ride to Conquer Cancer is in the history books.  I'm 1 of only 46 people who have done the Alberta, Canada edition of the ride all 9 years thus far (and I'm pretty sure I  am the only one who has also volunteered as part of the crew each year as well).

The Ride went well overall....it was +31C on Day 1 and +29C on Day 2, we tallied ~6,250' of climbing (1903 m) and 220 km over the weekend. We had a brisk headwind (20-30 km/h constant) on Saturday from Bragg Creek to our camp in Okotoks (if anyone is familiar with the Tour of Alberta professional race, they did the reverse...our Day 2...as one one of the stages a couple years ago).

The legs are a little tired, but I'm pleased to report I rode the entire course (where I live doesn't have the long, grinding hills), hit 75.8 km/h on one of the Day 2 downhills and had an overall riot of a time. The new wheels were admired by many and did very well on the course.

I'm signed up for next year too :)

     Cheers,

    Mike
