2018 R3 seatpost slipping

Hi folks. My new R3 is back at the LBS after just a handful of rides as the seatpost is slipping. It drops 20-30mm over a few kms. It's a lovely bike but it is driving me mad! I've cleaned and repasted that post, torqued it up nicely but no luck. I never had any such issues with my R2s, anyone had the same with the new R3? Allan

I do not have an R3 but I had a similar issue on one of my MTBs. Check the screw of your seatpost clamp for any dirt or any scratches in its thread which could result in resistance. In my case the resistance in the seatclamp screw was strong enough to make the torque meter click even though the clamping force wasn't nearly high enough to hold the seatpost in place when I put my weight on it.

Thanks, it is looking more complicated than that, we are waiting for a warranty claim to go through

Hi there, I had the same problem with my R3. I took it to the dealer and they put some friction paste on the tube and it is no longer an issue

Lots (and lots) of grip paste and some fiddling at the LBS and it is holding fast so far. Fingers crossed

Definitely wouldn't bee happy with 'fiddling' either. I would make sure that they are tightening to spec and that they are using the correct paste. Mine was 100% within the first application of the paste and tightening.

I am not entirely happy either but am keeping an eye on things. No issues for over a month now, and I know I will have good support from my LBS if it recurs

The solution is a more aggressive carbon fiber griping paste. There is a difference. Mine slipped badly with the Park Tool paste even when over torqued. I highly recommend you buy a tube of Finish Line Fiber Grip and be done with seat post slippage forever. I use 3nm torque on my R3 seat post clamp.

Bottom line it shouldn't continue. If it does get a warranty replacement u don't spend that type of money to worry about your seat post slipping

It remains fine. I am (overly) familiar with the warranty process so won't put up with it if it recurs, that's for sure
