    2013 S5 Rear Wheel Rubbing

I just bought a 2013 S5 and love the bike so far. I have had it about 2 weeks and have ridden around 300 miles. Im now getting this creaking and popping noise coming from the cranks so decided to start inspecting. Upon inspection i take the rear wheel off and notice that it has been rubbing and has rubbed a 1 x 2 inch spot well down into the carbon. When the bike is on the stand, the wheel spins free but if you push on the rim, you can make it rub. Im running zipp firecrest 404's with continental grand prix 4000s 700x 23 tires.

Pictures of the tyre clearance please. It shouldn`t be happening with Zipp 404 FC + GP4000 23x700.

I had same issue for my S5 earlier. Then I showed it in the shop where I bought the S5. They emailed the pictures to Cervelo and Cervelo sent me a new frame. I guess you can do the same. My wheels were Fulcam racing wheels( Company wheels) at that time.

I noticed my issue 3 months after. Still they changed my frame. Hope they do the same for you. Good Luck.

I have an S5 with 808 Firecrest and have spotted the exact same issue! I bought mine from RA Cycles in NY so being in Chicago I just took it to a local store where they told me this is a known issue. However, there was no mention of having the frame replaced by Cervelo and I don't believe they spoke to Cervelo on my behalf so to hear that you had your frame replaced suggests there is an accepted design flaw. I am very curious to see what Cervelo come back with after having had the same issue occur with 404s. Please update this thread when you hear back, i would very much appreciate knowing whether or not I could/should have my own frame replaced. It was very disappointing to find and I wasn't happy with the solution (different tire but wasn't a full solution, i can still feel it rubbing at random times). A

     Hello!

I bought my S5 two weeks ago. I have a Easton EC90 aero with a Continental Sprinter Gatorskin 22´´ tubular tyres, and my bike presented same problem. Rear wheel can´t ride. I try with other wheel Mavic and same problem. I can't belive... brrrrr

My gosh - is the tire dragging on the bottom of the rear brake caliper? All the aero gains go down the drain if your brake drags!

brsquare, does the new frame have more clearance? Where was the main difference?

kwoodard, I am not saying your frame does not have a problem, but your tyres look extremely fat from those pictures. Are you sure those are 23 and not 25? It seems very strange beacause it almost touches the brakes... Are those tubulars or clinchers?

FramJam, please visit your local Cervélo retailer to start a claim. If your frame is determined to be outside accepted manufacturing tolerance, then you will receive a new one. If you have a major event coming up, you can try a smaller profile tire until the replacement arrives. I know this would not be an ideal solution but, it is good to have an interim option until you are sorted out.

rog23 makes a good point: that tire does look rather large. Not all tire manufacturers are completely consistent. Not everyone's 23 actually measures 23. Continental, especially the GP 4000s and gatorskins, tend to run much larger than other tires.
