Kookie, I have the same setup as you do, can you please send us a lateral picture so I can compare to mine. Mine doesn't rub on a daily basis, just on some bumpy roads. I'll sen you guys a close lateral picture of mine.

Here is a picture of my tire clearance (S5 Team).

Re: 2013 S5 Rear Wheel Rubbing

Guys, as I told you I have very little clearance in my S5. As of right now I am using Cosmic Carbone SL, they have 19mm width according to Mavic website. If I change my wheels to a HED Jet 5 with 23mm width or Zipp 404 with 24.7mm width, since they're wider, would they make my tyres a little bit wider, giving me more tyre clearance? Do you guys think it's a feasible solution?

I'm also planning to go that route. My plan is to get the zipp 303 fc which is a little bit wider than the 404. The other solution I have in the pipeline is to use conti gp 4000 700x20 tyres. I'll post my review once I get to the chance to ride using it.

In my experience using a wider rim makes the tire taller as well.

+1 on this.  S5 with Zipp 101s & Conti GP 4000S.  Previously had Mavic Cosmic Carbone SL with same tires.  The Mavics had more clearance.

Re: 2013 S5 Rear Wheel Rubbing

Last set up: Cervelo S5 56 Cosmic Carbone SL Rubino Pro Slick The wheels rolls nicely or regular roads, the back wheel touches the upper part of the frame (right under next to the breaks) when I hit some irregular roads, lots of bumps. Changed to: Cervelo S5 56 Cosmic Cabone SL Rubino Pro III (threades) I have not ridden yet, but visually I got at least 1mm more clearance. I will give more details soon. Go figure, the threaded one is thinner then the slick..

Thanks for sharing that, I would be very mad if I spent $ 2.700 on a pair of 404 or 303, and feel that instead of fixing my problem, it just made it worse.

I got more tyre rubbing on my S5 using the rubino pro III with cosmics than my gp4000s. It ate up my race tape. Man, looks like wide rimmed wheels are out the window. I hope I can borrow some wheels to try it first.

Re: 2013 S5 Rear Wheel Rubbing

Yeah, I really wanna try the wide rims just to get it out of my mind. I does not make much sense that wider rims makes the tyres taller as well. You only have so much rubber, it either gets tall or gets fat...

Re: 2013 S5 Rear Wheel Rubbing

I just replaced my rear tyre with conti grand prix 700 x 20. I'm not sure what the effect on the "aero" properties of the frame but I have a good 3-4mm gap between the tyre and the seat tube and no tyre rubbing at all. I did a 40 km "hill repeats" ride. However, I cannot yet discern any impact on riding comfort. I will probably tell the difference when I do a century this weekend. I might try to use a gp attack tyre 700 x 22 if the compliance went south.

Good to know Turismo! If someone that has two wheelsets (a wide and a narrow one) could make the test with both using the same tyres, would be great to have this wide x narrow rim doubt.

Re: 2013 S5 Rear Wheel Rubbing

As of today, the tires that I have tested and they work are the Vittoria Diamonte 700x23 Pro Light's(slicks) that come standard on the 2013 Cervelo's and the Diamonte Pro Radiale in the 700x22. I just ordered some Continental Grand Prix 4000(not 4000s) in 700x20 to try. I did a 100 mile ride this past weekend and had a flat(pinched tube)with the Pro Lights when barely hitting Railroad Tracks that's why I like the Grand Prix's. FYI I always use continental tubes and have had no problems.

These Rubino's look good and work on the Mavics but they don't on Firecrest 404's.
