    2018 S3 Di2 Bluetooth

Hi, does anyone know if the Shimano Di2 R8050 fitted as an option in some of the 2018 S3’s includes the unit that provides bluetooth connection for firmware updates etc? I have tried Shimano and UK dealers and some say yes and others say no as it’s an extra to be fitted later..... Does anyone know in the Cervélo world? Cheers.

Hi It depends on the battery, the latest ones have the Bluetooth chip but are generally more expensive. The codes are available on Shimano website, might be worth checking before purchase

It does not only depend on the battery. In addition to the correct battery, you also need the bluetooth/ANT+ unit (EW-WU111), which I hardly believe is installed in any stock Cervelo. It wasn't installed on my 2018 R5 Disc Dura Ace Di2. At least my bike already had a compatible battery (BT-DN110) so the only thing needed was the bluetooth/ANT+ unit (EW-WU111 - costs ~$80).

The 8050 system would include the latest battery BT-DN110. This newer battery has increased memory space to allow for increased memory space required for bluetooth operation. The battery itself does not transmit or receive any ANT+ or BT signals.

Xriss is correct in regard to the need for the EW-WU111 D-Fly wireless unit to connect wireless devices. Note that there is an older D-Fly unit that is only ANT+ compliant. Make certain you get the latest model.

Lastly, you will need an additional E-tube cable to install the EW-WU111 inline in your system.

I just installed the new wireless junction thingy (EW-WU111) to my new 2018 S3 with Di2 R8050. It is great! Super easy to install - takes about 30". Then you can fire up the E-tube project from your smart phone plus utilise the hidden buttons on the top of your shifters for scrolling up and down screens on your Garmin. Its great. Im also trialling the Syncro shifting mode. So far I love it. But I seriously dont know why Cervelo did not supply the wireless set up to start with. Its a no brainer to me

Hi Wannabefast, many thanks for your post. Did the unit come with instructions on how to install or did you get the info/directions from somewhere else? Cheers....

There were some instructions that were a bit avg. But it was simply a case of unplugging the existing little connector thingy and then plugging in the new one...E-tube help was ordinary too. Think I used YouTube for help in setting it all up once installed...

    Re: 2018 S3 Di2 Bluetooth

Many thanks! Another issue whilst fitting the bluetooth module, does anyone have any idea of how to fit the internal Di2 battery to the frame (once the bottom bracket and everything is fitted) for some reason one of the internal nuts holding the battery holder to the frame came undone and fell into the frame. Recovered the nut but can’t workout how to get enough access to refit! Any ideas anyone please????

Oh man. That sucks. My battery was rattling a little bit so i took it out to redo. It's a real pain. But what I did was slide the bracket and battery out. Then put a dab of super glue on the two nuts in the battery brackets so that they don't move. Then wrapped a bit of foam padding around the end of the battery and slid it all back into the frame. Then the tricky bit was lining up the holes for the screws to go in. A friend was helping me.and he jagged it after about 10 goes. Think we got lucky! Good luck!

Many thanks! All sorted with two spots of super glue, a metal BBQ skewer and two elastic bands.. Not sure how but got it back together first try!
