New Cervelo S5 Disc and S3

Pleased to see the launch of the new S5. Looks like they really did their homework. Comments indicate quite mechanic friendly in addition to pushing the aero about as far as possible with the present level of integration. Seems like they spent a lot of engineering time on the handling after gaining a better understanding of the frames contribution due to twisting. I look forward to buying one. It would seem to have possibly grabbed back the leadership in the aero department as an overall design. I only wish I could build it lighter but those heavy disc's get in the way. Likely will do a build out of Sram Red HRD mechanical which with my tubular wheels should be a sub 15 lbs in a 54.

Thanks Don nice to hear from you. Not many of us old guys on the Forum these days. Yes looking seriously at the Sram HRD mech as it appears lighter if only marginally than Dura Ace. Trying to get the build to 14.5 lb's but difficult with the disc S5 or a any disc bike for that matter. So you can't over look the 80 to 100 gram saving over Dura Ace although believe its the better groupo. Use to Sram though so no issue. Cheers

Man, this one checks a lot of boxes. I'm quirky in that I like road bikes but with clip-on aero bars. The integrated aero handlebars / stem fad makes this difficult. However, I can't help but imagine what may be possible with this setup. If you look at the top of the bars, there are two inserts on either side that accept bolts from below (to affix the handlebars). The spacing of these inserts looks like about the width of aero bar armrests. I can only dream - if they make another insert that can be used with Cervelo / 3T designed aero bars. That would be fantastic.

While not fully knowledgeable about the 3T aero bars it would seem that any machine shop could engineer a adapter to use the stem/bar mount points as you've suggested. As you have mentioned two small removable plates on the top of the S5's bars recieve four pan head bolts threaded from below through the V stem thus securing the handlebar. A little ingenuity should get you your result!
