• Re: Bike dilemma!

KeithR: Love the 2X6 bike stand! Effective and cheap.

Rocky Mountain Hammer Race. 1995-ish. 15 inch frame, sanded and painted flat black. New-to-me 9-speed Deore XTR shifters. New crank and SPD pedals, brake levers, cables and housings old school Spinergy rims, easton carbon bars, Cane Creek headset and brakes . Basically as much vintage stuff that I could use, with a new drivetrain.

  • Re: Other Bikes In Your Stable

Besides my 2010 S2, Giant Boulder SE I'm currently building up a mid 90's Rocky Mountain Hammer Race hardtail mtn bike. Finally got all the parts in, the frame is cleaned and repainted, and the build should commence shortly. Going with the original quill stem and threaded steerer tube on a rebuilt Answer Manitou fork, but updating the ...

  • Re: R5VWD with RED 2012 vs something else

Couple of things to think about. Others can correct me if I'm wrong, but a 2012 R5 and the 2014 R3 are probably very close if not the same frame, as the R5 tech has trickled down to the R3 over the past couple of years. Additionally the "frame in the basement" might sound like a good idea at the same price, but you should make sure ...

  • Giro 2014 - no spoilers

Following Ryder on the Giro this year. He's riding really well more than 2 weeks in. I can't help but look at the GC times and think "If only he had that 3 1/2 minutes back that he lost on the first ride". He'd be breathing down the leader's neck.

  • Re: 10-11 speed compatability

Thanks Hutch; the wheel issue is not so big, I'd like to get new wheels anyway. I guess the main part of my question was whether my Ultegra compact 50/34 crank and chainrings will be compatible with the front derailleur and chain of the new 105 5800 group. I want to make sure that the big/small chainring spacing is the same as the indexing on ...

  • 10-11 speed compatability

I'm currently running a 9-speed Shimano setup of mixed parts including Sora shifters, Ultegra crank, and various bits and pieces from a re-build on my 2010 S2. Chain Reaction Cycles has a great deal on the new 105 5800 11 speed group. I want to order it, but it comes only with 172.5 mm cranks at this time. Inquires to their sales department ...

  • Re: Replacing my S1: Go with a 2013 S2 or 2014 S3.

+ 1 on WildOne's comments. I'm in my 40's, and at the back of the fast group rides, (or at the lead of the slow group :D ), and my 2010 S2 is all the bike I'll ever need. Look at the Olympic example. I was freaked out that Olympians are competing with the same bike I have. I'd love to upgrade wheels and gearing, but time and ...

Wow, really nice looking build. What crank and chainrings are you using?
