• Re: R2 Love...

Depends on how you define "adapter". Shimano spindles are 24mm, and BBRight is a 30mm standard, so the bearings chosen need to drop the id down to accept a Shimano crank. In the case of the new R series, Cervelo has chosen to use these with Shimano cranks; https://bbbcycling.com/en/bike-parts/bottom-brackets/BBO-72 There's ...

  • Re: Just a heads up - on buying a used Cervelo if you have a problem down the road....(you're on your own)

Contrast that with Stages Power for example. I bought a used Stages Power meter on eBay, fused to an SISL2 crank arm. Backstory - For those that don't know, SISL2 crank arms are Cannondale factory supplied cranks for their high end bikes. Super stiff, extremely light, The only part CDale still makes in the US. They retail for $1200 a set. ...

  • Re: Don't want to cut the steerer on my 2016 R3..

Ah it's already glued in...because I'm pretty sure the insert is supposed to go below the level of the upper bearing, so I would imagine it's long enough to actually do that, and give full coverage on the stem. So I don't think you'll have any worries as far as clamping goes. And apparently you can slide the nut further down ...

  • Re: Don't want to cut the steerer on my 2016 R3..

In general, a slammed stem is safer than one with a bunch of spacers underneath. Adding spacers underneath creates more leverage on your steerer during out of the saddle efforts, but Cervelo does allow for 50mm total below the stem, 35mm of spacers and 15mm of bearing cover.. The thing i would be concerned about is, what is your stem clamping ...

    Ah, and in the meantime.....
Just wanted to share my new Cervelo R2 that replaced under warranty my 2009 RS as this developed cracks in the bottom bracket. Awesome service by Cervelo BTW....
This dude with a 7 year old frame gets a whole new frameset. Cracks in the BB from improper bearing removal? No, ...
I retract my scraping down theory.
So what is the new theory behind the fracture? Because if it's a stone chip, and if Cervelo said stone chip, I'd be done. If it fractured from tightening the skewer, is it that big a leap to think there could have been some inherent weakness in the structure?

It's PROBABLY ok to use.. the material where the nut clamps into the dropout appears to all be there. However, with my feeling that the dropout wasn't molded properly from the start, and that fact that there may be underlying cracks in the fork, I certainly don't feel 100% confident that this fork is truly safe.

  • Re: Cracked dropout on S3 - warranty denied

The crack I'm referring to is that the lawyer tab and part of the lower fork leg have cracked off, as in no longer there. It's interesting that in this post, there are three people who agree with Cervelo but all have differing views on how this happened. One post says "the material was scraped down". Another says it was ...
